SENGA WHITE
Learning Designer and Educator
Introducing the newest member of the He Waka Tuia team! Senga White joins us as our learning designer and educator, bringing a wealth of experience in local history and heritage, a deep passion for lifelong learning and decades of experience working in schools.
You may know her as Heritage South’s project manager - where she is responsible for the Southland Heritage Month programme each March or you may have been to one of her Senga’s Stories events where she shares some of her favourite tales of our past.
As a passionate lifelong learner herself she has a Master of Contemporary Education. She adds this to her extensive experience as an information literacy specialist, a research and learning instructor and two decades as a professional school librarian.
Senga's approach to education is all about making learning come alive, not only for students but for the whole community. She believes in integrating a local approach into the New Zealand Curriculum while creating immersive learning experiences that inspire curiosity and a love for history.
Her History Detectives in Action programme is just one example of this, with her CBD walking tour experiences captivating the imagination of all as she sprinkles stories of the people, places and events that make the stories of the South come to life.
In her spare time, Senga enjoys knitting and crocheting for her new grandbabies, reading (anywhere and everywhere!), walking the Waihopai, and delving into local history stories in books and old newspapers.
She is excited to collaborate with all of you to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students. Let's work together to ignite a passion for learning and history!
